One constantly hears: "late-abortion is necessary to save women's lives". Nothing could be further from the truth. I worked nine years in a hospital dealing with high-risk pregnancies- A. Levatino
The story
Anthony Levatino, a gynaecologist-obstetrician, performed 1,200 abortions, of which 100 “late” abortions of women in the 24th week of pregnancy. He had not only financial gratification, but also the conviction that he was helping women in their right to choose.
One day Levantins six-year-old daughter Heather died in a car accident. The loss of their daughter was a devastating blow to the parents and left a permanent wound in their hearts.
This is how the doctor recounted those heartbreaking events:
“What do you do after such a disaster? You take a few weeks off and then you go back to your life. I went back at the Albany Medical Centre, as I had done hundreds of times before, to perform a ‘late’ abortion. It was nothing unique to me. I had other problems on my mind. It was just a routine for me, my job. There is a tool – Sopher’s forceps: You insert it and pull out an arm or a leg. I did it more than 100 times. But this time, I literally stared at that limb in the forceps.
When you do abortions like this, you have to carefully arrange the parts of the baby on a table, and although it’s gruesome but absolutely true, you have to “put” the baby back together to make sure nothing is missing, that you have two arms, two legs, and all the other parts. If you don’t, your patient will come back with an infection, haemorrhaging, or death. So I completed this abortion.
I know it sounds strange, but after all these years, after 1,200 abortions and more than 100 “late-term” abortions, I really looked at that pile of body parts lying on the table, and for the first time in my life, I didn’t see “a woman’s wonderful right to choose” or what a great doctor I was helping a woman deal with a “problem.” I didn’t even see the $800 I made in 15 minutes. All I saw was someone’s son or daughter! Suddenly it hit me! “I had just buried my daughter, and here someone came to me, offering me money to kill their son or daughter, and I agreed.”
A background
Anthony Levatino had doubts about the legitimacy of abortion even before his daughter’s Heather death. Did he truly had saved hundreds of women from life-threatening risks and had never deliberately killed a child.
During this time, he spread the word among his fellow employees on the medical staff. He and his wife were looking for a child for adoption. It was then that the doctor noticed a remarkable paradox. While there are couples who want to adopt and love a child, abortionists often take children away.
After a long effort, the Levatins couple became Heather’s parents. A month later, Mrs. Levatino gave birth to a son. They opened their hearts to parental love.
Sharing his experience
Anthony Levatino was involved in events that stirred his conscience on the issue of abortion. One day, a woman in a blessed state came to his office for a checkup and gave him a message.
“Jesus loves and cares for you. He does not want you to be involved in abortions in your life. Please stop!”
Levatino felt compelled to remove this unusual woman from his office as soon as possible. He did exactly that. Later, he learned that the woman belonged to pro-life activists. A participant in prayers for the conversion of those working in the abortion industry.
In the future, he will join the pro-life movement himself and appeal to people, especially women, to defend life. Not to avoid contact with doctors performing abortions.
By experience, he argues that if you want someone to change their mind, you have to create relationship. The earliest possible, to be able to start a dialogue. Dr. Levatino participates in pro-life activities and dispels pro-abortion myths. He shows the reality that abortion is not a humane end to life.
The doctor attests:
“One constantly hears that “late-term abortion” is necessary to save women’s lives.” Nothing could be further from the truth. I worked for nine years in a hospital dealing with high-risk pregnancies. I saw hundreds of cases of really severe complications of pregnancy: various types of cancer, heart disease, incurable diabetes, and pregnancy toxaemia. Over these nine years, I have saved hundreds of women whose pregnancies were life-threatening. I did this by bringing these women into labour, ending their pregnancies with birth. Over all these years, I have had to deliberately kill zero children.
Did all these children survive? They were, after all, premature babies.
No, but they all got a chance. Most survived.”
Anthony Levatino and Abby Johnson are two examples of people who left their jobs in the abortion industry. They had seen how it affects human life, both their own and that of others.
The “And There Were None Left” Foundation is supporting former abortion industry workers, materially and spiritually. Also praying for those who have contributed to abortion is the foundation of the work.
