Cardinal Robert Sarah, in his latest statement, decided to support the recently deceased Pope Benedict XVI in moving words. Here is what he said.
On the last day of December 2022, media around the world circulated sad news about the death of Pope Benedict XVI. Now the Pope has decided to remember Cardinal Robert Sarah. He wrote, among other things, that his meetings with the late Pope were “a true spiritual experience that shaped my soul.” He added that he hopes for his speedy canonization.
“Some time later we worked closely together in connection with the publication of our reflections on priestly celibacy. I will keep the details of those unforgettable days in my heart. I will keep deep in my memory his deep pain and tears, but also his determination and steadfast will not to give in to lies,” said Card.
“He always trusted his associates. This sometimes led to betrayals and disappointments. Benedict, however, was incapable of changing this approach; he could not believe that a man of the Church was capable of lying,” – wrote Card.
“He never bowed to the wolves. They tried to force him to be silent. He was never afraid. His resignation in 2013 was not due to discouragement, but to the certainty that he would better serve the Church with silence and prayer.” – he concluded.
